The Celebration of Lights takes place every year on the night after Thanksgiving in Indianapolis. The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial in the middle of downtown Indianapolis transforms into a very tall Christmas tree. The master of ceremonies announced a crowd projected at over 100,000 crammed into the four streets radiating from the Monument Circle. There is about an hour of shows, songs and commemorations prior to the lighting of the lights. After a countdown the memorial goes from this:

Just a couple of blocks from the festivities stands the State Capitol building glowing in the the nighttime.

Pretty spectacular. We have something similar in Knoxville, but it’s just a tall tree. This blows me away!

They have been doing this since I was a kid. It draws a lot of people now – this year the weather was perfect.
