Weekly Photo Challenge: Time – Centuries

The Great Wall of China consists of several distinct areas of construction over a range of hundreds of years. We have seen two sections: one at Badaling and the other at Juyongguan. Some of the wall at Badaling stood unrestored – crumbling and in piles of broken stone. The first two images show areas dating back as far as AD 1500. Juyongguan’s restored Cloud Platform Gate in the third image dates back to AD 1342. The time that has passed and the people who have come and gone since these structures were new are incomprehensible. And this is but a narrow timeline in the history of humankind.
