Several times we get accosted by the squirrels at the park. The squirrels are used to many park visitors who will throw nuts or seeds as they walk by. They are so used to it that they will approach just about anyone; that would include us. Ethan, my son-in-law, seems to have a special connection with the squirrels as they always approach him first. This series records one of those meetings from back in August. The captions help explain the action!
Great! Here comes another one – maybe he has some food for me!
Let me back off a bit and get a good look first!
Okay! Easing on in to see what is between his fingers.
Yeah. This is good stuff.
“Any more where that came from buddy?”
“What? No? Okay! I’ll leave now.”
But first, I’m going to stand tall and look tough. “Hey, are you feeling lucky — punk?”
It worked! He is offering some more!
Alright! Let me have it.
Just a moment while I chomp this down!
“Okay buddy – anything else?”
They’re walking away – I suppose I’ll take that as a ‘No.’
But I will be watching for you next time. You better come prepared!
We see squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits quite frequently. No raccoons this year, but they have come around in prior years. An occasional opossum will pop in too.
Beautiful!

I love the internal narrative. I always feel like squirrels are judging me and my scanty offerings. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your story!

Thank you Nancy. We often fill in the narrative as these situations pop up (as was the case this day!)

I love squirrels. They see me coming also. Must be my peanut breath!

Peanut breath, eh. I suppose that could only be surpassed by peanut butter breath!

Great photographs, as always. In England, they always say that this is the only wild animal that city dwellers ever get to see.
